JOIN THE DARIEN/STAMFORD RED CROSS AND THE ITP FOUNDATION FOR A VERY SPECIAL AWARENESS BLOOD DRIVE FOR ITP
SPONSORED BY THE DARIEN PLAYHOUSE
ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura) is a rare bleeding disorder in which antibodies, part of the body's immunologic defense against infection, attach to blood platelets, cells that help stop bleeding, and cause their destruction.
ITP patients are often treated with products of donated blood, such as immunoglobulin, an essential element for the body’s immune system. Immunoglobulin derives from the extracted plasma from over one-thousand blood donors.
The ITP Foundation is honored that the Darien/Stamford Chapter of the American Red Cross, and Darien Playhouse, have answered the call to spread awareness.
We urge OUR community members to get involved.
THE DARIEN PLAYHOUSE IS GENEROUSLY DONATING 2 MOVIE TICKETS TO EACH PRESENTING DONOR.
To make an appointment call 1-800 GIVE LIFE (448-3543) or go online at www.givelife.org: sponsor code DARIEN PLAYHOUSE

Chronic ITP Family Weekend
On April 18, 2008, families affected by ITP, and The ITP Foundation, attended the Chronic ITP Family Weekend at the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, in Ashford, Connecticut. The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is an award winning residential summer camp, and year-round center, for children with serious illnesses and conditions. The camp, in collaboration with its associated camps in the United States and abroad, provides such children an opportunity to experience camping of the highest quality.
Each year the camp is host to over 100 family members affected by such life threatening diseases as cancer and hemophilia. Deemed Family Weekends, these three-day affairs are designed to be both recreational and educational, and include various camping pastimes like arts & crafts, campfires, and fishing, as well as parent sessions.
The ITP Foundation was honored to be included in the weekend's program, and established a travel scholarship for those families in need of financial assistance in order attend. We were happy to assist all families who applied for the scholarship, and look forward to helping others in the future.
You can read all about the Chronic ITP Family Weekend in May's upcoming issue The ITPF Gazette, the official newsletter of The ITP Foundation. The ITP Foundation is actively seeking feedback from those parents who attended the Camp, and we encourage you to email your thoughts and comments to The ITPF Gazette's editorial staff.
