About Us

The ITP Foundation was established to raise awareness of Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The ITP Foundation helps families with children and adolescents with ITP who need financial assistance to manage and treat the disorder, and raise funds to further ITP research.

ITP is a disorder of the blood that involves the immune system. ITP stands for Immune Thrombocytopenic (a decrease in blood platelets) Purpura (purplish areas of the skin and mucous membranes). You may also hear it referred to as Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura which means the cause of the low platelet count is unknown. ITP occurs in children and adults.

The focus of the ITP Foundation is on ITP in children and adolescents. The ITP Foundation takes an active role in raising awareness through outreach efforts on both local and national levels. This is done through sporting, social and educational events. The primary focus is on sponsorship of endurance athletes who raise funds for the ITP Foundation.

The ITP Foundation gives grants and funds research that directly benefits children and adolescents with ITP. The ITP Foundation also provides education and support for children, adolescents and their families. The ITP Foundation is a tax exempt organization pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, and all donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.
